By Mark Bennett, Executive Director, CAE, IOM

We appreciate your continued support of the Ohio Lawn Care Association (OLCA) this year. We had fantastic attendance at both field days in Wooster and Columbus – the largest crowds we’ve had in nearly 10 years! As your season begins to slow, know that OLCA continues to strive to help you protect and grow your business and we invite you to join OLCA at association events this fall.

Plan to join us for the Grateful Embrace on Saturday, November 12 in Dayton or Rittman to help winterize the grounds of two veterans’ cemeteries. Since 1994, OLCA through its generous membership has devoted countless volunteer hours and materials to the task of working on the hallowed grounds at the Dayton National Veterans Cemetery in Dayton. In 2011, OLCA added the Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery in Rittman. This annual event, sponsored by OLCA, the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation, and the Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association, is a fantastic way for the lawn care industry to give back to those who gave all. Please contact the OLCA office if you are interested in helping us this year by providing employees or fertilizer.

OLCA will hold its annual meeting at the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation Conference & Show this December. Watch for additional information closer to the date. This is your opportunity to have lunch on us and hear about what your industry’s association has done in the past year to help your lawn care business.

OLCA membership renewals will be mailing soon. Be sure to renew your membership to take advantage of all of the great benefits OLCA has to offer. The average OLCA member saves more than $2,500 annually on its workers compensation premium. That’s a more than $20 return on investment for every dollar you spend on OLCA membership dues! Additionally, OLCA offers its members additional discounts on lead generation, plant/pest diagnostics and soil sample analysis. Visit the website or call the office for additional information on any of these member benefits. Taking advantage of these benefits can significantly boost your company’s bottom line.

OLCA continues to promote the interests of its membership through its participation in the Ohio Professional Applicators for Responsible Regulation (OPARR). Mark your calendars now for February 22, 2017 – OPARR’s Green Advocacy Day in downtown Columbus. This is one of the most important OLCA events you can participate in that will directly affect the environment in which your business operates. You’ll hear from legislators about their priorities for the General Assembly, discuss bills relevant to the green industries and get to meet with your state representative and state senator’s offices to talk about your business.
